Second City Sound are thrilled to have been invited to join with other fabulous local choirs and entertainers in performing at this fabulous event Community Spirit returns for a 13th fabulous year to celebrate diverse and excellent choral singing in the West Midlands.
Community Spirit is B:Music’s acclaimed massed singing project delivered in partnership with Associate Artists Black Voices. It’s so much more than just singing, it’s about bringing communities and musical styles together. This year we have been working with 9 choirs and nearly 400 singers who’ve had have the opportunity to work together, share repertoire and enjoy the powerful and joyous experience of massed singing.
Join us for a very special concert where this year’s Community Spirit Massed Choir will showcase the culmination of many months of rehearsing. The programme will include an incredible world premiere performance of a new commission by Ken Burton.
Ken Burton is an acclaimed British choral director, composer, performer and producer, known for his work across TV and Film. In this hugely exciting new work ‘Gospel Reels’, commissioned by Black Voices, he explores the journey of Black spiritual song.
BLACK VOICES, founded in Birmingham, England in1987, by its Managing Director Carol Pemberton MBE, is a female collective, globally celebrated for bringing their unique form of a cappella to the world stage. Such is their critical acclaim and respect amongst the music industry, that BLACK VOICES has opened concerts for some of the greatest names in music including Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba and Take 6.

What an honour and a thrill

Despite some rainy moments, we had a fantastic day out and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
